This initiative positions Petrodex at the forefront of Zambia's clean-energy transition, addressing the national power deficit, diversifying generation away from hydro-dependence, and strengthening energy resilience amid climate-related challenges. By accelerating large-scale solar deployment, Petrodex is helping build a reliable, sustainable, and secure energy future for Zambia.
The Mailo Solar PV Plant marks the first project under this 400 MWac MoU and a major milestone in Petrodex's solar portfolio. Its initial 25 MWp phase, energized in 2025, less than a year after the MoU signing — showcases Petrodex's ability to deliver swiftly and efficiently. Fully equity-financed, Mailo serves as the foundation of a planned 100+ MWp solar facility designed to strengthen Zambia's renewable energy supply.
Petrodex is now advancing plans to expand Mailo as part of its 400 MWac solar pipeline across the country. Mailo also integrates into Petrodex's trading portfolio, contributing to both domestic and cross-border power markets through SAPP.
Zampower – Dedicated distribution for industrial growth
Petrodex has launched Zampower, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) focused on developing and managing dedicated 11 kV distribution infrastructure across Zambia. Acting as a one-stop power solution, Zampower designs, builds, operates, and maintains private distribution infrastructure that connects industrial, mining, and agricultural clients directly to reliable power supplied by Petrodex Energy Trading Zambia.
By combining distribution infrastructure development with secure and uninterrupted power supply, Zampower and Petrodex Energy Trading Zambia enhance access to clean energy while advancing Zambia's Universal Electricity Access by 2030 and UN SDG 7.
Integrated social impact with energy infrastructure development
Green Cities - Zambia: Aligned with Zambia's Rural Electrification Master Plan (REMP) and Vision 2030, the Green Cities Initiative empowers rural communities through clean and reliable energy and drives inclusive growth by enabling access to e-learning, e-healthcare, and digital connectivity.
By deploying solar PV and battery-powered mini-grids, each site ensures sustainable power for underserved areas while oversizing capacity to trade surplus power, strengthening local livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and regional energy resilience.
NANT Power Project – Sierra Leone
Petrodex holds an equity interest in the NANT Power Project, a large-scale LPG/LNG combined-cycle generation facility in Sierra Leone, developed to enhance national energy security and support economic growth. Through its stake, Petrodex is contributing to one of West Africa's most significant private-sector energy investments — delivering over 100 MW of clean, reliable baseload power to the national grid.
Originally conceived as an HFO-fired plant, the project has been restructured to utilize cleaner LPG/LNG technology, reducing emissions and improving efficiency. Supported by political-risk insurance from international development institutions, the project will strengthen national energy security and support long-term economic growth.
Petrodex's participation reflects its commitment to expanding sustainable power generation across Africa and advancing the continent's transition toward modern, diversified energy systems.
Petrodex is managing the operations and maintenance (O&M) of Sierra Leone's first utility-connected solar plant, ensuring its sustained performance and contribution to the national grid. The initiative includes financing for essential repairs and upgrades to restore the plant to full operational capacity.
